This medicine is so much more then just dealing with your symptoms, it's about learning who you are, how to be present to the moment, loving what was, loving what is, healing from the inside out, being all that you can be for yourself and others, and living your life painlessly, passionately and authentically!
I knew that I wanted to be an acupuncturist since I was 17 years old. My senior year in high school I was in a life altering car accident where I broke my femur bone along with numerous other injuries that put my life on hold. Months later after visiting doctors, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, all of whom helped me immensely and put me back together again, but didn't quite know what to do with my existing pain. They all told me that they have done all that they can do, see a pain management specialist, or to "take Advil". I didn't want to put any more chemicals into my body that were already there. I wanted to be pain free and to walk across the graduation stage without crutches, or a cane.
Someone suggested Acupuncture. I hated needles. HATED needles. But I was desperate for relief. My first appointment with Teal was invigorating. Finally someone who listened to me, someone who made me feel human, someone who cared about me. After my first few treatments with her, I walked out without having to use my crutch, I felt the best that I had in months! I walked across that stage not only without my crutch, but in Victoria Secret heels! Since then I have used Acupuncture to help me with issues that I didnt even know it could help with. I am a true believer that something good comes out of everything bad that happens to us. I wouldn't take back that accident in high school, even if I had the chance.
I am forever indebted to my very first Acupuncturist, she got me walking again, and introduced me to this wonderful medicine which has grown to be one of my biggest passions in this life! The next 7 years of my life would be dedicated towards learning ancient Chinese Medicine.
I went on to study at Elizabethtown College for my undergraduate degree. Quickly upon graduation I applied to Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute) for my Masters degree in Acupuncture. Enrolling in this program was one of the best decisions of my life. The three years at MUIH transformed me into a better person, a healer and best of all, an Acupuncturist!
